Main Task: Audience Research

Main Task: Evaluation FINAL

Main Task: Front Cover Textual analysis

Denotation: The magazine consists of a colored image of a man (Jay-z) looking directly at the camera. It is a close up shot from his head to his shoulders. The background of the photograph is white, and the photograph covers the whole of the magazine cover. on top of the man (Jay-z) there is a selling line reading 'The 10 most exciting people in music now'. Behind him is the Masthead of the magazine 'Q' in white text on a red background. The photographed man's name is in a beige/ brown colour. it is big and bold, on the left side of the photographed man are some cover lines in black and red. some of the cover lines are fairly bigger than the others. One of the cover lines are boxed in a beige colour.
There is a bar code on the right- hand side of the magazine. there are two small circles in the right hand corner of the magazine.
Masthead & selling line: The Masthead is behind the Main subjects head, reading 'Q'. The Mast head is very distinctive it is the letter 'Q' in white on a red box background. It is quite large which makes it stand out. The Selling line is above the Main subjects head, this gives the audience a clue on what the magazine is about, music. as it reads 'The 10 Most exciting people in music now'.
Character: The cover Photograph is of the successful American rapper 'Jay-z'.
Composition: He is posed in a very serious way, as if to say 'this is what i'm giving to you, myself'.
Costume: From what you can see Jay-z is wearing a suit this comes across as formal, and smart. It also comes across political, as he is an American rapper wearing a suit this makes him break the stereotype, of rappers being in hoodies and wearing hats and big chains and diamonds. This shows simplicity.
NVC: The Non verbal communication is very serious as he has no facial expression, and his lips are slightly pouted, his eyebrows are also furrowed showing his seriousness. He is looking directly into the camera, which catches the eye of the audience.
Lighting: The Lighting is High-key because the background is white, which is displaying day time
Setting: There is no setting, however the white background connotes simplicity, as the magazine is not over the top, perhaps the use of the white background is to relate to the seriousness of the main subjects face. as other colours used might have made it too over the top or busy.
Cover lines: The cover lines are black and red some are white and one is covered in a beige box. This creates a colour scheme. The main Cover line is the artists name 'JAY-Z' in a beige/ Brown colour. all the cover lines including artists names are in red like, 'Noel Gallagher', 'Thom Yorke', 'Muse', 'Lady gaga', 'Dave Ghrol', and 'Brandon Flowers'.
